A year later, the first terry towel was in production and this was shown at the Great Exhibition in 1851. Her Majesty, Queen Victoria, was presented with a set of these, she immediately ordered more and the rest as they say is history…
In 1951 Christy celebrated its centenary, 100 years of the Royal Turkish towel.
Special towels were produced to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II and then again to celebrate the Silver Jubilee in 1977.
In 1988, Christy became the official towel supplier The Championships, Wimbledon. It is no surprise that the Christy towel used on Centre Court by the players has now become an iconic part of The Championships.
Their strong knowledge of cotton gained from over 170 years in textiles has meant their bed linen is now as well regarded as their towels. All lovingly designed in their studio in Cheadle, our bedding boasts high thread counts, intricate embroidery and beautifully woven designs in a combination of classic and contemporary styling.
